The Delta State government has begun conducting promotion interviews for civil servants, a process that will run from December 2 to December 12. This initiative involves officers on salary grade levels 12 to 16, who are due for promotion in January and July 2025.
This move is aimed at resolving the longstanding issue of delays in promotions, which has caused concern for both the state government and civil servants. The interviews are being overseen by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko. Civil servants who participated in the interviews have expressed their appreciation for the timely initiative, considering it a step forward in addressing the backlog of promotion arrears.
In particular, officers commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his efforts to improve the welfare of workers in the state, as well as Mr. Bayoko for supporting the governor’s MORE agenda, which prioritizes workers’ welfare.
One of the interviewees, Deputy Director Augustine Itawansa, who is expected to be promoted to salary grade level 17, urged the government to continue this practice by scheduling promotion interviews annually in November or December. He noted that this would help ensure a smoother process and reduce the accumulation of promotion arrears.
