Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, has described Ousmane Dembele as the best footballer in the world at the moment, while claiming that Kylian Mbappe inadvertently helped Paris Saint-Germain by leaving the French club for Real Madrid.

Speaking on the Sunday Oliseh Global Football Insights Show, the former Juventus midfielder said PSG had evolved into a stronger collective side since Mbappe’s departure.

Mbappe left PSG after rejecting a contract extension during the 2023/2024 season, following the club’s decision to turn down a reported €120 million bid from Real Madrid.

“I will say that Mbappe did PSG a favour because prior to his exit, it was said that he called the shots at the club,” Oliseh said.

According to the former Nigerian international, PSG’s current structure now prioritises discipline, teamwork and work rate over individual influence.

“Players are now saying if they don’t run, they don’t play. When you hear things like that from Dembele, who is the best player in the world, that tells you PSG has totally evolved,” he added.

Oliseh also pointed to PSG’s progress to the UEFA Champions League final as evidence of the club’s transformation, noting that the squad has largely remained intact over the last two years.

“This is the evolution of football. They are now in the Champions League final with practically the same team for twenty-four months,” he said.
