- Epic Movies Criticized for Lack of Authenticity
- Comedian Urges Filmmakers to Embrace Cultural Storytelling
- Basketmouth Calls for a Fresh Opportunity to Get It Right
Popular comedian and filmmaker Bright Okpocha, widely known as Basketmouth, has criticized some of his colleagues for neglecting Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage in their movies.
In an interview with Hip TV, Basketmouth expressed disappointment over the portrayal of epic stories in recent films, which he described as lacking depth and authenticity.
“We had a golden opportunity to showcase our culture positively, but most filmmakers squandered it,” he remarked. “Many of these movies feel like stage plays rather than true representations of our heritage.”
The comedian lamented that only a few productions have managed to impress him so far. However, he remains hopeful that the industry can turn things around and embrace authentic cultural storytelling.
