Celine Dion, a well-known Canadian singer, has disclosed that she has Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition with autoimmune disease-like characteristics.
She described how she has been finding it difficult to sing and walk in an emotional video that she posted on Instagram today. She also mentioned how the health problem causes her muscles to spasm out of control.
She stated how the uncommon illness, which affects roughly one person in a million, has an impact on every aspect of her life and interferes with her ability to go about her everyday tasks normally.
The singer of “Power of love” also disclosed that she had canceled eight of her Summer 2023 performances and postponed her Spring 2023 performances.
“Hello everyone,” she says in part of her address. I apologize for taking so long to get in touch with you. I’m very excited to see you all on stage and talk to you in person because I miss you all so much.
As you are aware, I have always been honest, and while I wasn’t ready to speak up before, I am now.
I’ve had health issues for a very long time, and it’s been incredibly hard for me to face my difficulties and talk about what I’ve been through.
She said, “Recently I received a stiff person syndrome diagnosis, an extremely rare neurological condition that affects 1 in a million people.
“While there is still much to learn about this uncommon ailment, we now know that it is the source of all the spasms I have been experiencing. Every area of my everyday life is impacted by these spasms, which can occasionally make it difficult for me to walk and prevent me from using my vocal cords to sing as I normally would.
“I hate to break it to you now, but this means I won’t be prepared to resume my European tour in February. My cherished children are supporting and helping me, and I have an excellent team of doctors working with me to get better.
