Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone called for humility from his players after their remarkable 14-match winning streak secured a 1-0 home victory over Osasuna, lifting them to the top of La Liga. Julian Alvarez’s 55th-minute goal, assisted by a clever corner from Antoine Griezmann, ensured the win and put Atletico one point ahead of second-placed Real Madrid with 44 points.

Simeone acknowledged the importance of set pieces in securing hard-fought victories, praising his players’ collective effort and resilience. “They know how to suffer and understand that there will be difficulties in every step,” he said, highlighting the team’s ability to overcome challenges.

The victory capped off a record-breaking streak that began with a 2-0 win over sixth-tier Unio Esportiva Vic in the Copa del Rey on October 31. Atletico’s form has also included a dramatic 2-1 victory over Barcelona and a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid earlier in the season.

Despite Atletico’s impressive performance, Simeone urged caution, emphasizing that the team must stay humble and focused on their objectives. He downplayed speculation about winning a third La Liga title under his management, stating, “We need to stay on track, saying anything else would be disrespectful.”

Looking ahead, Simeone’s side faces a demanding January schedule, with six matches across three competitions in just 18 days. Atletico’s next match will be against second-tier Elche in the Copa del Rey, followed by a La Liga trip to Leganes. Additionally, they will resume their Champions League campaign on January 21 with a home match against Bayer Leverkusen.
