Some fired police officers have petitioned the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to swiftly implement the court’s decision to return them to the force.
They claimed that the ruling was issued in April of last year and that the former IGP ignored it despite recommendations from the Police Service Commission and the Police Legal Department.
Emmanuel Idris, their spokesperson in Akure, the Ondo state capital, called to the new IGP to “use his good offices to correct this obvious injustice.”
“We members of cadet inspector (force entrants 33,34, and 35) heartily congratulate you on your well-deserved appointment as the new Inspector General of Police,” Idris remarked.
“The frenzy, ecstasy, and excitement that greeted the announcement of your appointment, combined with the spontaneous and wild jubilations that greeted your triumphant entry into the force headquarters after your decoration, said a lot about not only how much you were accepted by the majority of Nigerians, but also your love by the Officers and men of Nigeria Police.”
“Your contemporaries and those who have worked with you all attested to your integrity.”
“That you are an officer who performs his duties with God’s fear, fairness, equity, and justice.”
” It is against this backdrop that we, the members of the aforementioned courses (force entrants), are requesting your assistance in carrying out the court’s decision in suit number.NICN /ABJ/281/2021CSP ECONG EGWO EGONG & 3 OTHERS VS PSC & 2 OTHERS.
“This decision has been made since April of last year. But, to our dismay, the former IGP steadfastly refused to act despite directions from the police service commission and the police legal department, respectively.
” The IGp’s move was further perplexing considering he swiftly implemented a similar court decision not long ago affecting our Asp counterparts from courses 18, 19, and 20.
” It was puzzling why what was sauce for the geese wasn’t sauce for the gander.
“The letter from the PSC, as well as the legal advice from the CP, are reproduced here, sir.”
“As a result, we urge our new IGp to use his good offices to right this obvious wrong.”
They wished the new IGP a “prosperous tenure as you assume leadership of the Nigeria Police.”
