The Nigerian Medical Association, South-South Zone, has threatened to close all Delta State hospitals in protest over the death of one of its members, Dr. Uyi Iluobe, on New Year’s Eve by gunmen who assaulted his hospital, Olive Clinic, in the Ethiope West Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the NMA Edo State Branch/South-South Caucus/ZEC, Dr Udoka Imoisili, and the Secretary of the NMA Edo State Branch/South-South Caucus/ZEC, Dr Collins Otoikhila, threatened to shut down hospitals in the state for one week.
“While we grieve the sad murder of our colleague, we wish to assure all our members in the South-South zone that we will pursue this case to its logical conclusion,” the statement said. We will go to whatever length to guarantee that Dr. Uyi lluobe and his family receive justice.
“While the South-South caucus/zone, in collaboration with the Delta State branch of the NMA, is working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding this unjustified murder of a dutiful medical doctor, the zone strongly condemns this heinous conduct and, in the meantime, resolves as follows:
