- Chris Martin curates historic halftime show for the World Cup final
- MetLife Stadium set to host the spectacle on July 19, 2026
FIFA is setting the stage for a historic first-ever halftime show at the 2026 World Cup final, and Canadian rap icon Drake has emerged as a top contender for the headline act.
The global football body recently revealed that it is working with Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, to craft a Super Bowl-style spectacle for the final showdown next year.
Speaking with Fox5, FIFA President Gianni Infantino responded enthusiastically to the idea of Drake leading the performance, calling it a “good idea.” The suggestion came from the host, who pointed out that Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance had set the bar high.
“So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea,” Infantino quipped. “Actually, Drake was with us when we unveiled the host cities… We will make it happen.”
The grand finale will unfold at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will be rebranded as New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. As part of the final weekend festivities, FIFA is also orchestrating a massive Times Square takeover, adding to the excitement of the event.
The 2026 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, promises to redefine football entertainment, blending sport with world-class music in an unforgettable showpiece.
