DSS Frees Remaining Kidnapped Polytechnic Students

The Department of State Services (DSS) has rescued the remaining kidnapped students of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, ending the ordeal of all six students abducted during an attack in Zamfara State.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, who shared the update on X, the DSS rescue operation was carried out late on Wednesday using credible intelligence. The operation secured the release of the remaining four students, and no ransom was paid.

Makama said one suspected kidnapper was arrested during the operation, while the other members of the gang did not survive.

The students were kidnapped on 3 June after armed bandits stormed their off-campus hostel in the Low-cost area of Kaura Namoda town. The attackers initially abducted six students, triggering widespread concern among their families and the academic community.

Following the earlier release of two of the victims, security operatives stepped up intelligence gathering to locate the remaining captives. The intensified effort eventually led to the successful DSS rescue, bringing the kidnapping incident to a close.

Makama stated, “Following an earlier release of two of the six students, security forces intensified an intelligence-led operation, and surgically secured the safe return of the remaining students to the relief of all.”

The successful DSS rescue marks another breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping in Zamfara State, where armed bandit attacks have remained a major security challenge. It also brings relief to the families of the rescued students and the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda community, which had waited anxiously for their safe return.
