Friday Sani Makama, the Director General of the Kogi State Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Firearms and Other Related Crimes, has denied reports that he has been arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS).

According to reports, the news that the former Kogi lawmaker was arrested for alleged involvement in the assassination attempt on Social Democratic Party Governorship candidate in Kogi Alhaji Muri Ajaka was widely circulated on social media and in some mainstream media.

In a press conference on Thursday, Makama said the news of his detention was the work of miscreants out to damage his image.

According to him, he is now undergoing training with the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to effectively carry out the task entrusted to him to prohibit the illegal importation of firearms into the state.

Makama stated that since his appointment as Director General of the Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Firearms and Other Related Crimes, he has received countless threatening calls and messages from criminal conspirators both within and outside the State.

He warned that anyone involved in the trafficking of firearms into Kogi State, no matter how well-connected they are in the country, will be prosecuted.

“The speculations of my arrest do not surprise me. The DSS is in charge of overseeing illegal guns smuggling at both the national and state levels. The DSS has played a significant role in teaching and preparing me to carry out this obligation without bias.

“The specifics of the training are not something I can reveal to the public, but rest assured that at the end of it, whoever is involved in either sponsoring or trading illegal firearms, the current training I am undergoing will equip me to go after you.”
