Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, faced a disappointing defeat in their second match of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament, losing to South Korea on March 12.

This setback followed a strong start, as the Nigerian squad had previously triumphed over Colombia with a decisive 70–37 victory, raising hopes for continued success.

However, the encounter with South Korea proved to be a tougher challenge. D’Tigress were plagued by foul troubles, and several key players underperformed, allowing the South Koreans to exploit their precision from beyond the arc.

By halftime, South Korea had established a 36–32 lead and sustained their momentum in the second half to clinch the win.

Under the guidance of Coach Rena Wakama, the Nigerian team will now focus on the upcoming matches in the qualifying tournament.

D’Tigress are set to compete against the Philippines, France, and Germany as they aim to regain their footing and build confidence ahead of future international competitions.
