Following a case of vote box stealing by hoodlums on Saturday, the Tsaragi Polling Unit 10 result will be void, according to Kwara State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Attahiru Madami.
Tsaragi is located in Kwara State’s Edu Local Government Area.
The cancellation was in accordance with the regulations governing how the polls were to be conducted, Mr. Madami told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
He explained that some areas of Ilorin West were where INEC employees and equipment arrived later than expected, which delayed the start of voting problems at the Registration Area Center (RAC).
We didn’t complete distributing the logistics until almost eleven in the morning, and I realized right once that we were running behind schedule. I extended the voting period till the last voter in line cast a ballot, he stated.
Only one of the 2,887 polling places in Kwara State, according to the REC, had its ballot boxes stolen.
He asserted that the claim that the commission used vehicles owned by one of the candidates’ parties to disseminate literature was untrue.
The electoral body, INEC, is still compiling the results of the presidential election in wards and local governments all across Nigeria.
Nigerians cast their ballots on Saturday to choose a new president and members of the national legislature.
Nonetheless, voting will still take place today in various parts of the nation.
