The Edo State House of Assembly has formally approved the nominees proposed by Governor Godwin Obaseki for the State Civil Service Commission. This decision comes just weeks before the conclusion of Obaseki’s second term as governor, which ends on November 12, 2024.

During a plenary session on Monday, lawmakers ratified a five-member commission, initially presented by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku on October 2, 2024. The confirmed nominees include Iguodala Lalla Aluyi as chairman, alongside members Ehi Obaseki, Gilbert Adegboyega, Julie Olatunji, and Margaret Ohiowele.

Additionally, the House has enacted legislation to establish the Edo State Digital Governance and Data Management Agency.

In a related development, Charles Idahosa, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), commented on the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State. He expressed strong doubts about the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances of winning, citing Obaseki’s interactions with various stakeholders, including the Oba of Benin. Idahosa attributed the PDP’s loss in the September 21 election to Obaseki’s management style and alleged ingratitude, while rejecting claims of election rigging. He emphasized that Obaseki saw no issues with his administrative approach.
