Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed his full support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming September 21 election in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo. Makinde made this announcement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Wednesday, responding to concerns about his absence at the PDP campaign grand finale in Edo.
Emphasizing his commitment, Makinde urged all PDP members to unite behind Ighodalo and called on the people of Edo State to vote for him in the forthcoming election. “Tongues have been wagging about my absence at the campaign grand finale; let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100 percent with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo. If Edo people want to know the difference between delicious and nutritious, they should vote for Asue Ighodalo to get what is nutritious,” he stated.
Makinde’s support comes in the wake of comments from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who publicly stated he would not support Governor Godwin Obaseki or the PDP candidate Ighodalo. Wike, who labeled Obaseki an ingrate, revealed that he had previously backed Obaseki but felt his support was met with unending insults.
Both Wike and Makinde were part of the G5 group that chose not to endorse the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 elections.
