The Edo State Government says it has received doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday titled, ‘Edo receives doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines, plans local rollout’.[

In a statement, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, said doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines in the custody of the state government are for deployment across the state.

Ogie noted that the state is preparing a localised distribution mechanism for the rollout of the vaccines in line with the national plan.

He said, “The Edo State Government is in the custody of doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines received from the Federal Government for distribution in the state.

“We are preparing a local distribution network for rolling out the vaccines in line with the national plan.”

Nigeria had on Tuesday received nearly four million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO.

our correspondent  learnt that COVAX shipped 3.94 million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, arrived from Mumbai to Abuja around 11.30 am.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency had said it would commence the vaccination of Nigerians in priority groups, starting with frontline healthcare workers.
