-Governor Monday Okpebholo announces wage increase during May Day speech
In a significant move aimed at boosting the welfare of public workers, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for all public workers in the state. The announcement came during his May Day address at Samuel Stadium in Benin City on Thursday.
The Governor’s decision marks a positive shift for state employees, many of whom have been advocating for a wage increase to keep pace with rising living costs. Governor Okpebholo, in his speech, emphasized the importance of rewarding hard work and dedication, ensuring that workers in Edo State receive fair compensation for their efforts.
In addition to the wage hike, Okpebholo revealed that his administration is reviewing the regularization of over 3,000 EdoStars teachers, who were previously employed as casual workers by the former government of Godwin Obaseki. The teachers, who have long awaited formal recognition, are now set to benefit from the ongoing review aimed at securing their appointments.
As Edo State moves forward, these initiatives underscore the Governor’s commitment to improving the lives of its workers while fostering a more stable and productive workforce.
