Abdulrasheed Bawa, the head of the EFCC, was found guilty of contempt of court by an Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama.

On Tuesday, the EFCC chairman was found guilty for the anti-graft organization’s disregard for a prior court order. The court had ordered the EFCC to return to a defendant Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, a former Director of Operations in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), his Range Rover, and N40 million.

Ojuawo was charged by the EFCC with two counts in 2016 in Nyanya before Justice Muawiyah Baba Idris of the High Court of the FCT. A Range Rover Sport (Supercharged) and N40 million were allegedly given to him by Hima Aboubakar of Societe D’Equipment Internationalnaux Nigeria Limited.

Ojuawo claimed in a lawsuit brought by his attorney R.N. Ojabo that the EFCC had disregarded the court’s November 21, 2018 ruling ordering the release of his confiscated property.
