The Kano State Peace Committee, in collaboration with the National Peace Committee led by General Abdussalam Abubakar, will sign a peace agreement with eight gubernatorial candidates ahead of the general election.
The Kano Peace Committee (KPC), a branch of the National Peace Committee co-chaired by Emeritus Professor Ibrahim H. Umar and Most Rev. Bishop Dr. John Namaza Niyiring, was formed to promote peace in Kano State, particularly before, during, and after elections.

Waiya stated that as the 2023 general elections approach, the Kano Peace Committee (KPC), in collaboration with the National Peace Committee and with support from the United Nations Office for West Africa and The Sahel, is planning a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, during which the peace accord will be signed.
He went on to say that gubernatorial candidates from eight different political parties are expected to attend and sign the peace treaty.
Representatives from the following stakeholder groups and organizations are expected to attend: traditional, religious, and community leaders, security agencies, women and youth groups/academics, respected elder statesmen, business community, media, civil society, PWDs, and others.
