Members of the National Youth Service Corps have been advised not to take monetary or tangible benefits during the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

On Friday, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the director general of the NYSC, addressed the corps members during sensitization in Abuja, which was also taking place concurrently in all of the federation’s states.

The DG promised the corp members of appropriate security and an improved welfare package while urging them to make history as excellent representatives of their organizations, families, and the NYSC.

Ahmed urged the corps members to follow electoral laws and added that they were not exempt from prosecution for doing so.

Never agree to get in a vehicle that isn’t provided by INEC. Whatever task is assigned to you, it is imperative that you are impartial and fair. You must have identity cards and be wearing your NYSC uniform. Keep in mind that you are not immune to wrongdoing.

To avoid putting yourself in risk, the DG advised not traveling alone. He also advised maintaining personal security and calling the NYSC Distress Call number in case of an emergency.

Ahmed also warned the corps members to refrain from engaging in any political debates or giving interviews to the media.

The DG pointed out that corps members’ participation in prior elections and other national tasks had garnered a lot of praise for the program.
