Elena Rybakina Claims WTA World No. 1 Spot

Elena Rybakina has become the new WTA World No. 1, replacing Aryna Sabalenka in the latest rankings released on Monday.

Rybakina needed to reach the US Open semi-finals to overtake Sabalenka. The 27-year-old went even further, winning the tournament after beating the two-time defending champion in the final. The victory gave Rybakina her third Grand Slam title and her first US Open crown.

The result ended Sabalenka’s 99-week reign at the top of women’s tennis. Rybakina also became the 30th player to reach No. 1 since the computerised WTA Rankings began in 1975.

Rybakina leads the latest rankings with 9,901 points, while Sabalenka sits second on 7,875. Jessica Pegula is third with 7,265 points, followed by Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva.

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina climbed two places to seventh despite her third-round exit. Karolina Muchova and Iga Swiatek each dropped one position.

Another Ukrainian, Marta Kostyuk, broke into the top 10 for the first time after reaching the US Open round of 16. Amanda Anisimova fell from 10th to 11th after her third-round defeat.

The biggest rise came from China’s Qinwen Zheng, the former World No. 4 and reigning Olympic champion. After returning from injuries, Zheng progressed from qualifying to the quarter-finals, where Rybakina ended her run. The result lifted Zheng 69 places to 52nd.

Several other players also reached career-high positions, including Sorana Cirstea, Sara Bejlek, Diane Parry, Oleksanra Oliynykova, Daria Snigur, Yuliia Starodubtseva, Kimberly Birrell, Taylah Preston, Lanlana Tararudee and Mananchaya Sawangkaew.
