‘Almost no one’ was in the office,’ according to Elon Musk, who claimed that complimentary worker lunches at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters were costing the company more than $400 per meal.
According to badge-in records, the office’s average occupancy for the previous 12 months was below 10%, peaking at 25%, he claimed.
After The New York Times reported that Twitter employees would have to start covering the cost of workplace meals themselves, Musk started tweeting on Sunday.
Musk was questioned by Tracy Hawkins, a former Twitter employee, about his $400 dinner expense estimate.
The cost of breakfast and lunch per person each day ranged from $20 to $25, which allowed workers to continue working during lunch and meetings. Attendance ranged from 20 to 50% in the offices, according to Hawkins.
