A picture of Olabode Olawuyi, a veterinary technician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Zoological Garden in Ile-Ife, who was murdered by a lion on Monday, has surfaced online.
Olawuyi’s picture was posted on his Facebook page by Okunola Segun, the deceased’s friend and relative.
He lamented Olawuyi’s sudden and unnatural passing and said he would be deeply missed because he was a devoted family guy.
Okunola Segun wrote: “Oh no, I desperately hope it’s not true. My childhood friend and cousin went to be with the Lord in a most unnatural and unexpected way attacked by a lion inside OAU lle-Ife. He was a committed Redeemite, a loyal family man. Olabode Olawuyi, I am distressed for you my brother, your love to us was great. I will surely miss you.”
Abiodun Olarewaju, the university’s public relations officer, had stated in a statement on Monday that although other staff members who were present at the scene tried their best to save the deceased, the wild cat had already seriously injured several people.
The university official expressed sympathy to Olawuyi’s family while also stating that a thorough investigation into the incident’s immediate and distant causes had been requested by management.
