Emilia Clarke, the star of Game of Thrones, is avoiding House of the Dragon.

Emilia Clarke rose to prominence as Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO drama Game of Thrones, but she refuses to watch its prequel series House of the Dragon, which focuses on her fan-favorite character’s ancestors. Clarke told Variety during the press tour for her new film, The Pod Generation, that she has yet to watch the series.

“It’s too strange. I’m overjoyed that it’s happening. I’m overjoyed with all of the accolades… “I just can’t do it,” Clarke said at Sundance. “It’s so strange. It’s bizarre. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? ‘Would you like to attend the school reunion?’ That’s how it appears. I’m trying to avoid it.”

During the recent 80th Golden Globe Awards, House of the Dragon was named the Best Drama Series of 2022, beating out Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark, and Severance. During its eight-season run on HBO, Game of Thrones never won the award.

When will House of the Dragon be back on HBO?
HBO is currently working on a second season of House of the Dragon. According to Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, the second season will begin filming early next year and will not be released until 2024 at the earliest.

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen – Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen from Thrones – as a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons erupts between claimants to the Iron Throne.

Season one co-showrunners were Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal of House of the Dragon. They also co-produced the season with George R. R. Martin. The series stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno among others.

HBO Max now has every episode of House Of The Dragon available. Stay tuned for the latest Game of Thrones news, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
