According to President Muhammadu Buhari, he was compelled to enlist in the military in order to escape pressure to get married soon after finishing secondary school.
On Friday, January 27, the President made this announcement in Daura, Katsina State. In a statement made by a presidential aide, Femi Adesina, the president said that under pressure to get married, he had to leave his first job managing a Daura co-operative early and enlist in the military.
“I explained to Governor Aminu Masari how I fled Daura to enlist in the army. God had it planned that way. Despite the decisions we make in life, God ultimately determines our fate.
At the front lines of the civil war, I witnessed how many people died. Some dropped right next to me. God kept me. Just before we arrived at several spots and after we crossed, many bridges were destroyed.
When I got there, I discovered the bodies of some of my own teammates with whom I had been working. Only through God’s mercy am I still here today, declared Buhari.
