Spanish football manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly signed a new three-year contract with Arsenal, putting to rest any speculation about his future with the club.
At 42, Arteta, who has been leading the Gunners since 2019, was nearing the end of his previous contract. Under his guidance, Arsenal has achieved consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League. Despite being in the final year of his old deal, Arteta had recently requested patience regarding contract talks, citing his focus on the transfer window.
The new contract comes just ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against London rivals Tottenham this Sunday. Since taking over from Unai Emery and moving from a coaching role at Manchester City, Arteta has not only won trophies but has also revitalized Arsenal as serious contenders for the Premier League title. In his first season, he led the team to victory in the FA Cup.
Arsenal has finished as runners-up in the Premier League for the past two seasons, engaging in exciting title races with Manchester City. Currently, the team is in fourth place in the league, with two wins and one draw. They will begin their Champions League campaign next week against Atalanta.
