Babatunji Wusu –

Taiwo Obasanjo, the estranged wife of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has reportedly been evicted from her Abuja home due to years of unpaid rent. The eviction took place on October 18, 2024, after her landlord issued a ‘Pay or Vacate’ notice for the property located at 30 Jessie Jackson Street in Asokoro.

Despite receiving a 30-day notice to address her rent arrears, Taiwo failed to comply, leading to the enforcement of the eviction. A source disclosed to SaharaReporters, “Taiwo was evicted last Friday over unpaid rent, which has accumulated for years. She is currently struggling to pay rent, and her belongings were thrown outside during the eviction.”

This situation unfolds against the backdrop of a public dispute between Taiwo and her estranged husband. In 2023, she publicly accused Olusegun Obasanjo of being a “wicked husband.” This exchange followed her plea for forgiveness on his behalf after he criticized traditional rulers in Iseyin, Oyo State, for their failure to greet him at an official event, which ignited controversy.

Following her request for forgiveness, Obasanjo dismissed her comments, claiming she was suffering from mental illness and denying her status as his wife or family member, despite their two children.

In a sharp retort, Taiwo launched a scathing attack on Obasanjo, accusing him of arrogance and an inflated sense of power. She asserted, “Have you not begged me many times in the past to come back to you? Yet, you query my mental health? You loved me deeply, even to the point of conflict with your first wife over me. It pains you that I left, but I did so to protect my sanity.”

Taiwo further challenged Obasanjo’s current relationship, asking him to provide evidence of any official marriage ceremonies, stating, “How many wives of yours did you marry officially? Please tell the world.”

This ongoing public feud highlights the personal and financial challenges faced by Taiwo Obasanjo, amidst a backdrop of familial discord and past grievances.
