Babatunji Wusu –

According to the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the European Union-United Nations (EU-UN) Spotlight Initiative, seven out of Ebonyi State’s 13 local government areas have high rates of violence against women and girls (VAWG).

During a community-based road show or rally to raise awareness about the importance of speaking out about violence against children, violence against women and girls, and violence based on gender in various groups in the seven selected local governments in the state, the organizations made this announcement in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area.

With assistance from the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, the state’s National Orientation Agency organized the program.

The National Orientation Agency’s programme officer and UNICEF desk officer, Unah Uchenna, claimed that despite initiatives to stop it, violence against women, girls, and children was remained pervasive in the seven local governments.

“On Tuesday, when we were conducting a roadshow in one of the seven local governments, we noticed that numerous kids were peddling goods on the streets between the hours of 9 and 11 in the morning. Therefore, the issue is still widespread, and we are making every effort to get these problems completely eliminated from our society, the speaker said.

He pointed out that NOA and the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative have gone out to millions of people to urge them to prompt report cases of violence against women, girls, and children in their communities and to educate them on how to deal with such problems and offer aid to the victims.

We provided information on how to immediately report any sort of violence against girls, women, or children instead of waiting days, weeks, or months to do so. One of the issues we have in the effort to combat this threat is this delay.

The National Orientation Agency, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Women Affairs, and other organizations involved in this field should be contacted if a community decides to start a program against violence against women, girls, and children, the official added.

Mrs. Ujebe Evelyn Nneka from the Ezzama community, one of the women in local government, urged the people of the local government to report any type of violence against women, children, or girls to the appropriate authorities. She is a member of the surveillance team of NOA and EU-UN in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

“We are here to push for the public to report any kind of violence in the neighborhood against women and girls.

Any instance of GBV in our area needs to be reported. Due to the fact that children are involved, they should not be engaged in child labor, child hawking, or child marriage.
