Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has postponed the arraignment of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to November 27, 2024, over 16 fresh charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The charges, totaling N110.4 billion, include allegations of criminal breach of trust and conspiracy, with two co-defendants, Shuabu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, also implicated.
At Thursday’s hearing, EFCC counsel Jamiu Agoro requested a new date, noting that the court-issued summons deadline for Bello’s appearance remains active until October 3. Justice Anenih authorized a notice to be posted at Bello’s last known address, while both co-defendants have secured administrative bail.
“We have agreed to reconvene on November 27,” said Agoro, following defense consultations. The judge approved the adjournment, granting EFCC’s request to ensure Bello’s attendance at the next hearing.
