A retired Joint Task Force Commander, Isma’il Tanko Wudilawa, has strongly refuted claims made by U.S. lawmaker Scott Perry that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is secretly channeling funds to terrorist groups, including Boko Haram in Nigeria.
During the inaugural hearing of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, Pennsylvania Republican Scott Perry alleged that USAID disburses approximately $697 million each year to finance not only extremist organizations such as Boko Haram, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda but also to support radical madrassas and terrorist training camps.
Amid intensifying scrutiny from President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency over mismanagement of taxpayer funds, USAID now faces significant pressure. Newsmen in Kano, Dr. Wudilawa highlighted unmistakable signs of foreign involvement in Nigeria’s security crisis. He noted that Boko Haram’s militants are equipped with sophisticated arms and exhibit advanced combat techniques—capabilities that surpass those available to Nigeria’s security forces.
“The arms used by these terrorists in remote areas are not purchased by our government; they are high-tech systems likely supplied by external partners,” Dr. Wudilawa explained. He also mentioned that captured insurgents have been found with foreign currencies and that helicopters have been repeatedly observed delivering arms and supplies to these groups.
Dr. Wudilawa urged both the Nigerian government and the public to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of promptly reporting any suspicious activities and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and the lives of its citizens.
