A former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mohamed Sani Sidi, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
The high-profile defection was announced on Wednesday at a grand ceremony in Kaduna, attended by key political figures, including Governor Uba Sani, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal Abbas, among other APC chieftains.
Welcoming Sidi and his supporters, Governor Uba Sani described the event as “one of the happiest moments in the history of the APC in Kaduna,” praising Sidi as a respected political figure and accomplished public servant.
“Whether we like it or not, Sani Sidi is one of the leading political figures in our state. He has paid his dues and made numerous contributions to our development,” Governor Sani said.
He emphasized that Sidi’s move was not driven by personal ambition but by a genuine desire to serve. “He is a man of means. Politics, for him, is about development, people, and nation-building,” he added.
In his remarks, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas commended the inclusive leadership style of Governor Sani and noted that the defection signals APC’s increasing appeal across political lines. He called for unity and a focus on national progress.
Sidi, in his speech, said he joined the APC after wide consultations across Kaduna’s 23 local government areas, convinced that the party aligns with his values and vision.
“It is with a deep sense of humility, gratitude, and unwavering conviction that I announce my official defection to the APC a party I believe holds the promise of a better Kaduna State and a greater Nigeria,” he declared.
The former PDP stalwart praised Governor Uba Sani for his developmental strides, especially in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, and security, noting that these efforts had rekindled hope among citizens. He also commended Speaker Abbas for his leadership at the national level.
Sidi, who also served as Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs in Kaduna, said his political journey has always been about uplifting lives and empowering people.
He further announced that several prominent PDP figures were defecting with him, including two former state chairmen, a former state secretary, and a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
“We are here not merely as defectors, but as partners in progress,” Sidi said, pledging full loyalty to the APC and vowing to work closely with party leadership to promote peace, unity, and development in Kaduna State.
