The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the death of Usman Buda, a butcher, who was assassinated on Sunday by hardline Muslims for allegedly making a derogatory remark about the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad bin Abdullah.
While noting that an investigation was underway to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators, the police revealed that the mob fled the scene and left the victim unconscious, where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for treatment, where he was later confirmed dead.
According to our source, the butcher made the remark during an altercation with another dealer at the Sokoto main abattoir about 8 a.m. on Sunday.
According to sources, some of Buda’s closest business associates in the market attempted to rescue him but were injured and admitted to the hospital as a result of the savage fanatics’ attacks.
Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, responded to the development, saying, “A distress call was received at about 09:20 am that one Usman Buda of Gwandu Local Government Area, a butcher at Sokoto Abattoir, allegedly blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as a result he was mobbed and attacked.”
“When the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro, and DPO Kwanni received the information, they led a team of police officers and all other operational commanders to the scene.”
“When the police arrived, the mob fled the scene, leaving the victim unconscious, where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.” Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to apprehend and prosecute the culprits.”
