On October 31, 2023, Emmanuel Sanikpege was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Port Harcourt Zonal Command, in front of Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, which is located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The suspect was taken into custody after he falsified an attestation letter and offered to guarantee the release of Umor Bright, a commission-investigated suspect.
On Tuesday, November 7, the commission revealed this in a message that was posted on its Facebook page.
Sanikpege was charged with two counts of forgery, which is against Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offenses Act (CAP M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007) and punishable under Section 1(2) of the same Act, according to the commission.
After the allegations were read to the defendant, he entered a “not guilty” plea.
Prosecution attorney B. O. Agala asked the court to set a date for the start of the trial in light of his plea.
Subsequently, N1,000,000 in bail was granted to the defendant by Justice Ajoku, along with an additional N1,000,000 in sureties.
