The phony news that was posted on Mrs. Aisha Buhari’s official Instagram and Facebook accounts has been refuted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Contrary to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive that only the old N200 banknote is allowed as legal tender until April 10, 2023, the fake news purportedly posted on the First Lady’s two social media accounts on Tuesday morning claimed that the old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes have been allowed to be recirculated as legal tender until May 1.

Many Nigerians are currently upset about the new Naira shortage, which has caused violent protests in the states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Edo.
Yet moments afterwards, the CBN published a press release that it had actually released days earlier along with a phony or distorted version that had been posted by Mrs. Buhari and contained the false information.
Tweeps and Instagram users reacted differently to the news. While some of them complimented the First Lady for the recent development, others swiftly called attention to the phony statement’s inherent poor grammar, indicating that it was fake news.
