A tragic accident occurred at PZ Junction in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and one person being injured, while another remains missing. The incident, which took place around 1:55 p.m., was caused by reckless driving. An articulated truck transporting two 20-foot containers loaded with goods lost control, veering off the main road before crashing into a parked container truck. The collision pushed the parked truck into several roadside shops, causing extensive damage and casualties.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that five adult males were trapped under the debris. While one person was rescued alive, three others were found dead at the scene. Efforts are still underway to locate the missing individual. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, reported that emergency responders acted quickly, cordoning off the site to prevent further harm. Heavy-duty equipment, including the “Super Metro,” was deployed to assist in recovery, with additional machinery on standby.
Oke-Osanyintolu also highlighted the importance of strict adherence to safety regulations for articulated vehicle drivers, urging transport companies to ensure proper training and maintenance of their vehicles. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving on Lagos roads.
