The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, has called on residents to strictly adhere to traffic regulations as part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across Abuja. He highlighted that obeying traffic laws helps reduce traffic jams, particularly in densely populated areas, and contributes to safer roads.
Adewale’s statement, made on Monday through the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, comes in response to recent traffic gridlocks in the capital. The prolonged congestion has drawn complaints from residents who are accustomed to smoother vehicular movement in the city.
The CP stressed that respecting traffic rules is not only a civic responsibility but also crucial for personal safety and national development. He specifically warned against illegal parking, street trading, and roadside hawking, which he said impede traffic flow, pose risks to public safety, and can lead to fatal accidents.
Emphasizing collaboration, Adewale reminded the public that the police are partners in progress, urging respect for officers and obedience to traffic laws. He also warned that any attempts to assault or obstruct law enforcement officers, particularly those managing traffic and public safety, would result in legal action.
Adewale concluded by assuring the public that the FCT Police Command remains committed to securing the lives and property of all residents, encouraging citizens to report traffic violations and suspicious activities via emergency lines.
