The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted 488 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed in jerrycans filled with palm oil and arrested a suspect in connection with the illicit cargo.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State, was apprehended at the Nyanya bus terminal on March 24 by police operatives from the Nyanya Division, in collaboration with officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

According to police sources, Aminu was allegedly recruited by one Yakubu Kachalla of Funtua, Katsina State, who paid him ₦100,000 to transport the ammunition from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State to Katsina.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that investigations are ongoing to track down Aminu’s accomplices and dismantle the arms-smuggling network.

“This arrest underscores the relentless efforts of the FCT Police Command in preventing the proliferation of illegal arms and curbing violent crimes in the territory,” she said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
