A joint operation by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command and the Nigerian military has led to the rescue of a kidnapped naval officer and two civilians abducted in Mpape, Abuja. The security forces also arrested four suspects and recovered N3.2 million, believed to be ransom proceeds from previous kidnappings.
The victims were abducted on March 21, 2025, when heavily armed criminals attacked the Maman Vatsa Estate gate around 7:35 PM. The assailants reportedly blocked Mpape Road, opened fire on moving vehicles, and forcibly took the three victims. The kidnappers later demanded N500 million for the naval officer and N200 million each for the two civilians.
Following a distress report, the FCT Police Command, under the directive of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, launched a coordinated rescue effort with the Nigerian military, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and members of the local Hunters’ Group. The operation covered Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, extending into parts of Nasarawa State.
Acting on intelligence, security forces traced the suspects to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills. Between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM on March 23, the joint team moved in, arresting four suspects and safely rescuing the victims. The security operatives also recovered N3.2 million in cash, suspected to be linked to previous ransom payments.
The rescued individuals are currently receiving medical attention at the Nigerian Army Clinic and are reported to be in stable condition. Meanwhile, authorities have intensified efforts to track down other fleeing suspects.
Security has been reinforced in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent further attacks, while the FCT Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
