The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued two suspected “one chance” robbery suspects from being lynched by an irate mob in Abuja, strongly condemning acts of jungle justice and urging residents to report suspected criminal activities to the appropriate authorities. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., after the Utako Police Division received a distress call indicating that a mob had apprehended and was assaulting two suspected criminals. Police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they successfully intervened and rescued the suspects from the violent crowd. The suspects were identified as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere. This development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police. The FCT Police Command strongly condemned the act of jungle justice, warning that such actions undermine the rule of law and could lead to the loss of innocent lives. The command emphasized that members of the public should always report suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than taking the law into their own hands. Police also assured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, while the rescued suspects are currently in police custody for further questioning.
