Residents of several communities in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State were thrown into fear on Tuesday night following an attack by suspected bandits on the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, which reportedly left four personnel dead.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. when heavily armed gunmen stormed the NPS facility under the cover of darkness, the operatives by surprise.

Sources said the assailants infiltrated the area unnoticed before launching a coordinated assault on the facility. In the process, at least four officers were killed, while others sustained injuries of varying degrees.

Eyewitnesses described the attack as swift and well-organised, triggering panic among residents of nearby communities, many of whom now fear possible further attacks.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said unidentified gunmen attacked personnel of the National Park Service.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other security chiefs, had moved to the area to assess the situation.

According to him, the police boss has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, operatives of the Mobile Police Force and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to reinforce security and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Security has since been strengthened in the affected communities, while investigations into the attack are ongoing.
