The Federal Government’s Technical Subcommittee on Dam Evaluation has confirmed that the Gubi Dam in Bauchi State is in good condition following an inspection on Wednesday. Aliyu Ibrahim, the Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations at the Ministry of Water Resources, led the evaluation as part of a nationwide assessment following the recent collapse of the Alau Dam in Borno State.

Ibrahim stated that the government initiated these inspections to prevent future dam failures. While the physical condition of Gubi Dam appears solid, further assessments are needed to evaluate its internal structure. He added that recommendations would be made to the government after completing inspections across the country.

The Alau Dam collapse had severely impacted parts of Maiduguri, Borno’s capital.
