For projects in the Ministries of Works and Housing, Aviation, Police Affairs, and Health, the federal government has approved N225.247 billion.
After the federal executive council meeting that President Muhammadu Buhari presided over at the presidential villa, the ministers of works and housing, Babtunde Raji Fashola; aviation, Hadi Sirika; police affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; and minister of state for health, Ekumankama Joseph, as well as the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed this to State House correspondents.
According to Fashola, he presented two memos that are largely based on public-private partnerships (PPPs) and in accordance with Executive Order 7, which President Buhari approved on January 25, 2019, for the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme to allow the private sector to invest in infrastructure while still owing taxes.
He said that the policy will enable MTN to provide a consistent and ongoing flow of funds at a cost of N202.887 billion to finish the unfinished construction, which totaled 91.9 kilometers on both sides.
According to him, this approach has assisted the nation in financing highways like Obajana to Kabba, Apapa to Oshodi, Oshoki to Ojota Expressway, and the Bodo to Bonni Expressway in Port Harcourt. He further said that the NNPC investment covers about 1000 kilometers across 21 routes.
“The first that was accepted yesterday was the one by MTN Nigeria PLC, the communications corporation to take over and finish the current Enugu-Onitsha highway, which is a 110-kilometer stretch that is being dualized, giving you 110 kilometers times two,” he added.
The private sector beneficiary of the second approval, which was for the Umuchi-Ususu-Umueme GZ Industries Road in Abia State, is a business called GZ Industries, which makes aluminum cans for bottling drinks.
Hadi Sirika, the aviation minister, claimed that although he submitted three memoranda for civil aviation, one of them—the one on the creation of the Aviation Leasing Company—was withdrawn so that it could be revised for clarity.
According to Sirika, Civil Aviation was given the go-ahead to award contracts for the construction of a fire truck maintenance and refurbishment center in Katsina for a cost of N7,913,949,964 billion.
The building of the maintenance center is covered by the second contract, which was given to Messrs. Ingenious Nigeria Limited for N3.985 billion, and the civil works surrounding it are covered by the third contract, which was given to Messrs. Glovesly Pro-Project for N1.120 billion.
In the second memo, the comprehensive business case for establishing a facility for maintenance, repair, and overhaul was approved. This will change the current practice, in which aircraft are transported to Europe, America, or the far east, where they are repaired.
“When it’s established, we’ll take care of the maintenance here. There are numerous arguments. People have remarked that we have Messrs. Aero Contractors and Ariks, as well as other companies that offer MRO services,” he said.
The Nigeria Police Trust Fund will receive a contract for the delivery of vehicles and insurance coverage for a number of other vehicles, totaling N4,541,829,704 billion, according to the minister of police affairs.
He claims that the fleet consists of Toyota Camrys, Landcruisers, and Prado models from 2021.
The Toyota Camry vehicles, which will be employed for tactical operations, are approximately 44 in number. The Land Cruisers and Prado are both approximately eight vehicles each.
