By Eppe Franklyne| Robin van Persie has reportedly been dismissed as head coach of Feyenoord after just one full season in charge, despite guiding the Dutch club to a second-place finish in the league.

Several media outlets in the Netherlands reported on Sunday that the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker has been relieved of his duties, although the club had yet to issue an official statement at the time of reporting. The 42-year-old still had one year remaining on his contract.

The reported decision comes shortly after significant changes in Feyenoord’s leadership structure, with Robert Eenhoorn taking over as general manager and Devy Rigaux assuming the role of technical director.

Last week, Rigaux hinted that a review of the club’s recent campaign was underway and suggested key decisions would follow the assessment process.

“We will take the time to analyse everything that has happened here this past season, so that we also have a clear picture to make decisions.”

Although Robin van Persie helped Feyenoord secure a runners-up finish, the club ended the season 19 points behind champions PSV Eindhoven. Their campaign was also marked by inconsistency, with results failing to match expectations over long periods.

Reports in the Dutch media claimed that concerns over Van Persie’s management approach contributed to the decision. The former Netherlands international reportedly faced criticism for disagreements with certain players and for frequently altering team selections and tactics throughout the season.

Despite enjoying an illustrious playing career with clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Feyenoord, Robin van Persie now faces an uncertain future in management following the reported end of his tenure.

If confirmed, the move would mark a surprising conclusion to a season that saw Feyenoord finish among the Eredivisie’s top teams while undergoing significant changes behind the scenes.
