The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that the new curriculum for basic education will be implemented across schools starting in January 2025. This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, during a stakeholders meeting in Abuja focused on the curriculum’s rollout.
Under the new curriculum, students in basic schools will be required to acquire at least two vocational skills, including plumbing, tiling, hairstyling, floor works, plaster of Paris (POP) work, and solar installation. Prof. Mamman emphasized that the goal is for students to graduate with a minimum of two skills, enabling them to lead productive lives.
The foundation of the curriculum is based on the National Skills Framework, which has already been approved. Prof. Mamman highlighted that this significant initiative will impact all schools in Nigeria, both public and private. He confirmed that compliance with the new curriculum is mandatory for all educational institutions.
