The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its dedication to executing the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in the country’s northeast.
The guarantee was given by Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the state minister of defense, at a meeting at his Ship House office in Abuja with the delegation of the Nations Mine Action Service, which was led by Director Ileen Cohn.
Matawalle underlined the government’s commitment to working with UNMAS to support farmers and internally displaced people (IDPs) as they reintegrate into society in order to enhance their standard of living.
He declared, “Our goal is to create action plans that will make it easier for farmers and internally displaced people to return to their homes.”
In order to allow IDPs to access education and reintegrate into their communities, the minister emphasized the need of the Federal Government providing the required technical support for the development of a national Mine Action Center in the North East.
Earlier in her response, Cohn praised the Minister’s efforts in persuading the Borno state government to support and facilitate this plan by offering office and residential space. She also emphasized the continuing developments toward the establishment of the Mine Action Center in Maiduguri.
She reaffirmed UNMAS’s dedication to aiding the region’s farmers and internally displaced people with their rehabilitation efforts.
