The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festival.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced the decision on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria and in the diaspora, urging the faithful to reflect on the values of sacrifice and unwavering faith demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).

Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on the Muslim Ummah to seize the period to offer prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of national solidarity during this sacred time.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to national development, the minister highlighted ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He stated that these initiatives aim to restore Nigeria’s path toward stability and progress.

“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the minister urged all Nigerians to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation,” the statement concluded.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic celebrations, honoring the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

The declaration of these holidays provides an extended weekend for festivities, reflection, and family gatherings nationwide.
