The Federal Government has moved to investigate allegations of child sexual abuse linked to a daycare centre reportedly owned by the mother of popular Nigerian singer, Simi.

The development follows renewed controversy on social media after a TikTok user identified as Mirabel accused the singer amid resurfaced posts on X (formerly Twitter). In the old posts, Simi had spoken extensively about the prevalence of sexual assault in Nigeria, stressing that nearly every woman she knows had experienced one form of abuse.

In one of the posts that triggered heated debate at the time, the singer advocated strict punishment for rapists, recommending castration as a deterrent. The position sparked fierce exchanges online, with users sharply divided over her stance.

However, the controversy escalated after some of Simi’s old tweets referencing children at her mother’s daycare centre resurfaced. Certain social media users interpreted the posts as suggestive of inappropriate intent, prompting widespread calls for a thorough investigation.

Responding to mounting public pressure, the Federal Government, through the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), assured Nigerians that it would treat all credible allegations of child sexual abuse and misconduct with utmost seriousness.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, NAPTIP urged individuals with verifiable evidence or direct knowledge of the matter to come forward confidentially.

“If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially via DM or email info@naptip.gov.ng,” the agency stated.

The agency reiterated its mandate to combat human trafficking, child exploitation, and sexual abuse, emphasizing that investigations would be guided strictly by evidence.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Simi nor her representatives have issued an official statement addressing the specific allegations tied to the daycare centre.

The unfolding situation continues to generate intense debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians calling for due process while others urge caution against trial by public opinion.
