The Federal Government has directed the immediate vulnerability assessment of all correctional facilities nationwide, as part of proactive security measures ahead of the upcoming Sallah celebrations and the intensifying rainy season.
Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, issued the directive during an emergency virtual meeting with all Zonal Coordinators, Commandants of Training Colleges, and State Controllers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Service’s spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Abubakar Umar, the meeting was aimed at strengthening facility security and preventing breaches during this sensitive period.
“This is not just about concrete walls and iron bars it’s about trust, duty, and the safety of every Nigerian,” the CGC reportedly stated. “The time for complacency is over.”
