Babatunji Wusu –
By means of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the Federal Government of Nigeria has started giving N20,000 grants to Kogi State’s most disadvantaged residents.
The financial support is not a loan and does not need to be repaid, as stated by Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, at the announcement of the grant distribution to the recipients on Tuesday.
She claims that the fund, whose distribution had already started in other regions of the nation, is anticipated to support the recipients in all they do and to help them grow their enterprises.
Edu reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to help millions of Nigerians escape poverty.
“The President firmly believes that he must enable Nigerians to escape poverty. He and his group have set a goal to lift at least 50 million Nigerians out of poverty.
In order to do this, the president assembled a committee to determine who among our citizens is the poorest, and they devised a number of initiatives aimed at boosting the average person’s income.
In the state of Kogi, we are formally closing the grant for marginalized communities today. Since it’s a Kickstarter, usage guidelines should be followed. The minister stated, “This is meant to help your business, and it is anticipated that it will aid in whatever you are doing.
The governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, praised President Tinubu for ending hunger and poverty in the nation during his remarks at the program’s debut.
The governor characterized Tinubu as a humanitarian who prioritizes the needs of the average person.
“I thank the President for enabling the Humanitarian Affairs Minister to lead programs that benefit everyone, in addition to the ones we carried out as announced by the Commissioner for Finance. We were planning on how to do more and empower them,” the statement reads.
“We have to enter this program correctly, and in order to do so, we need to have the Ministry and Agency that will be interacting with the Mother agency correctly. I now establish the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kogi State, with God’s unique favor.
ThisDay cited Bello as saying, “We will also transmit a bill for the creation of Kogi State Social Investment Agency to the House of Assembly alongside the budget of 2024.”
The Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance, Hannah Odiyo and Mukadam Asiwaju Idris, praised the Poverty Eradication activities of the administration led by President Tinubu for its introspection and focus on the people of Kogi State in their respective speeches.
They expressed hope that Kogi State will continue to gain from all of the government’s initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, which are led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
