Beneficiaries to Pay as Low as N10,000 Monthly
100 Housing Units Planned for Each LGA Nationwide
The Federal Government has announced a massive affordable housing scheme that will enable Nigerians earning as little as N30,000 monthly to own homes by paying just N10,000 monthly.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, disclosed this during a recent meeting with a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited in Abuja. He revealed that the initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme targeted at low-income earners and vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
Dangiwa explained that the government plans to build 77,400 housing units—100 units in each of the country’s 774 local government areas—to bridge Nigeria’s housing deficit and reduce poverty.
“The federal government plans to construct 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas across the country, amounting to a total of 77,400 units. The construction is expected to be completed within one year from the date of launch,” he stated.
According to the minister, 80 percent of the homes will be sold at subsidised rates to Nigerians earning between N30,000 and N90,000 monthly, while the remaining 20 percent will be given free of charge to indigent Nigerians such as widows, orphans, and others identified as vulnerable.
He said the pricing model is designed to accommodate people from all walks of life.
“Anyone earning as low as N30,000 per month will be able to purchase a house, as they will only need to pay N10,000 monthly, which is one-third of their earnings. Similarly, someone earning N90,000 will pay N30,000,” Dangiwa explained.
The project, expected to kick off soon, is designed to be completed within a year of its launch.
