The federal government has revealed intentions to begin charging helicopter landing fees.
The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development issued a statement confirming this.
According to a statement published by the Ministry’s Press and Public Affairs Manager, Odutayo Oluseyi, the government has granted the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) authorization to begin charging fees.
The announcement further stated that NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited has been granted sole authority to administer helicopter landing fees for federal entities on behalf of NAMA for the federal government.
Oluseyi stated that the measure will help the federal government increase financing for the agency to assure top-tier security and surveillance, as well as improve the overall quality of helicopter operations across the country.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has awarded NAEBI Dynamic Concepts Limited exclusive rights to collect helicopter landing taxes in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between NAEBI Concept and NAMA (focal agency), Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
“It is worth noting that NAMA, under the Act as revised in 2022, is authorized to collect aeronautical revenues in both upper and lower airspace to fund its self-sustainability. However, NAMA has historically relied on the upper airspace for revenue production.
“We are confident that this move will increase capacity, efficiency, safety, and security while also attracting more investment in the aviation industry.” We encourage all stakeholders to support this commendable initiative, which has followed proper protocols and procedures, and to embrace the new normal,” the statement continues.
